Manchester United is an English professional football club located in Manchester, England. Founded in 1878 under the name of Newton Heath LYR FC by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway department as a club representing the company, the club later separated from the company in mid-1892 and eventually changed to the current name in 1902. The club currently plays in the Premier League, the top-tier league in England. Manchester United is the most successful club in English football history, and is one of the most popular clubs in the world.
