Galatasaray is a Turkish professional sports club located in Istanbul. Originally founded in 1905 as a football-only club, Galatasaray eventually turned into a major sports club in the country. The club is still mainly known for its football team, which currently plays in the Süper Lig, the top-tier league in Turkey. The club is also one of the three founding members of the league that never suffered relegation, with the other teams being Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe. Galatasaray is the most successful football club in Turkey, and is the only Turkish side to win a major European competition.
